Deepen your presence

When I see you are “processing” things….

When I see you are “processing” things during conversations, the most contra-productive thing I could possibly do, would be to interrupt you.

“Holding space” while remaining silent, is then the wisest thing to do.

Because your processing, no matter to what it leads, holds much more potential for any emerging awareness or shifts waiting to happen, than any further question from me could hold in moments like these.

Your uniqueness is not about you

”What makes you unique as a leader?” is a questions that I sometimes ask in coaching sessions.

I often get entanglement for a reaction… like in “I have never seen myself as a unique person or leader. What would make me truly unique ? I would not really know…”

Your uniqueness may or may not be experienced by yourself, it certainly is experienced by everyone around you.

Learning how others see you, can be a tremendous help on building self-awareness of your uniqueness as a leader.

Coaching won’t bring solutions to you. It will bring you to your own solutions.

Future clients sometimes ask me for the “ROI” of coaching, or for the kind of solutions they can expect from going through the process.

My answer then may not be the smartest from commercial perspective, but it’s the only one that is true in my experience: coaching does not bring any solutions as if they were buyable “products”.

However, the coaching process strongly evokes your awareness about your own possible solutions. Although ”outcomes” is a better word. They are already inside of you, but for some reason they were not able yet to be spoken out or put into action.

Coaching accelerates that process, integrates the outcomes, and triggers you towards action.

The power of silence

Silences, and certainly long silences, can feel uncomfortable.

Yet, in executive coaching sessions, silences can be an absolutely crucial part of the co-creative process.

Silence can offer a very productive space for processing thoughts and emotions and for building new awareness.

They are nothing to be uncomfortable with. Not for you, and not for me.

Being present is more than being “there”

“Presence” is the capacity to be together with each other, in mind and heart.

When your coach is fully present with you, it generates experiences of connectivity, safety and energy.

In such a way that words may no longer be required to evoke your awareness and inspire your growth.

This nothing to be worried or anxious about: co-creation becomes “co-being”, and in that co-being, you basically start developing and transforming yourself.

Your Coach’s Organic Antenna

In coaching sessions, there is what is being said verbally and non verbally.

Yet, around that, there is also what is “present” in between your coach and you.

Coaches tend to say “I am sensing that…” or “This is what I feel coming in right now”.

This “sensing” happens through using their body as a kind of “organic antenna”, enabling them to “capture” anything that is happening in the co-creative relation.

Great coaches will not just share what they feel coming in; they will also always check that with you: “How do you relate, or not, to what I just shared with you ?”

Sharpen your impact

Kracht vanuit Onmacht (Nl)

In “Kracht vanuit Onmacht” (Strength through Powerlessness), I write about how leaders can use coaching to be a source of strength to overcome feelings of powerlessness brought on by political dynamics and continuous change. It is an authentic, practical and personal account of going from powerless to strength.

Impact in actie (Nl)

In my second book, “Impact in Actie” co-authored by Jean-Claude Lecoyer, I share insights, strategies, practices and tools to make your impact sustainable. After thousands of hours of coaching, it became clear to me that there is a great need to increase the impact one has on relationships, colleagues, careers, teams, and organizations. At the core of this book is “leadership through conversations”.
